On Friday, July 24, Sister Susan Hutchens, OSB, St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, was elected president of the Federation of St. Benedict. The Federation is an organization of 12 women’s Benedictine monasteries that provides mutual support and assistance to its member monasteries. The Federation of St. Benedict, one of four Federations of Benedictine women in the United States,  includes monasteries in the Midwest, west coast, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Taiwan and Japan. Remembering Nauvoo

Baking pies in Nauvoo, Illinois.

A warm late October sun emblazoned the red and gold leaves of maple, ash and oak trees lining the streets, lanes and river banks of Nauvoo on the day Srs. Mary Core, Cabrini, Peggy and Anne took Novice Sr. Claudia down for a visit. Carved pumpkins cropped up atop hay bale and bench along the downtown streets. Cornhusks rustled around lampposts in the breeze.

It was a perfect fall day. And the vanful of Sisters had a perfect visit. Continue Reading »
